The curiosity of the two-year-old was in full force and he was determined to explore every nook and cranny of the park, pick up every stick, and turn over every rock. The slight salty breeze carried the happy squeals and the inevitable ‘no-no-no!’ into the surrounding areas. He was in his happy place and made sure everyone knew. Mom and dad were nearby pulling out all the tricks to redirect him and cheer him on for a smile and doing Lord only know what silly things to get him to look at the camera.

Sound familiar? If you’ve ever tried to photograph a toddler, you know exactly what this dance looks like. The silly faces, the jumping, the doing of all the things to get a reaction out of them. I need to start a series called ‘Parent’s Behind the Camera.’

Neil and Ashlee did not hesitate to jump right in, and they did a wonderful job. They were patient, enthusiastic, were the biggest cheerleaders and it paid off. Thanks to their help, I was able to capture some wonderful moments of their two-year-old for them.

My favorite moments to photograph were Neil and Ashlee taking in these last moments as a family of three and documenting the beauty of pregnancy and motherhood. They complimented each other well, both so happy, outgoing, and each a foundational cornerstone to their loving family.

As I got to know Neil and Ashlee during our short time together, I learned they were from Minnesota and Michigan, and was able to share in the many joys of living in the Midwest. The winters are always debatable, but we all agreed it has its own charm that nowhere else compares. They met while in college in Colorado and are getting ready to celebrate their 11th year of marriage on September 1st. They have quite the series of events between a 2-year-olds birthday, the pending arrival of their newest addition, and a marriage celebration. August through September will always be a time they get to cherish as a family between birthdays and anniversaries. I sure hope I can continue capturing their growing family and their celebrations over the years.
